Monster Whoopie Pies!

We had a spooktacular time making these chocolatey whoopie pies with ooey-gooey marshmallow filling! 

Here's what you'll need:

Whoopie Pie pan/baking sheet

Electric beaters


Measuring cups and spoons

Cookie scoop or large spoon

Parchment paper /silicon baking mat


Whoopie Pies:  

1/2 cup of salted butter

1 cup of brown sugar 

1 egg

1 cup of buttermilk

1 tsp of vanilla 

1 3/4 cup of flour

2/3 cup of cocoa powder

1/4 tsp of baking soda

pinch of salt 

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

2. If you're using a baking sheet, line with it parchment paper or lightly spray your whoopie pie pan with cooking spray and set aside.

3. In a large bowl add butter and brown sugar and cream for about 1 minute.

4. Add egg and mix until incorporated.

5. With your beaters on low, add buttermilk and vanilla. Mix for another minute.

6. In a large bowl, mix together your flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. 

7. With your electric beaters on low, slowly add your dry ingredients into your batter. 

8. Using a medium size cookie scoop, scoop the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. ** if you are baking your whoopie pies on a baking sheet, your baking time will be less, check on them after 8 mins. 

Ooey-Gooey Marshmallow Filling: 

1/2 cup of salted butter

1 cup of icing sugar 

1 tsp of vanilla 

2 cups of marshmallow fluff

1. In a large bowl add butter and icing sugar and mix with your egg beaters for 1 min.

2. Add vanilla and marshmallow fluff and continue mixing until smooth and fluffy.

3. Add a couple of drops of the food colouring of your choice! Stir to incorporate. 


1. If you've baked your whoopie pies in a whoopie pie pan, you'll need to cut them in half with a butter knife to create a bottom and a top. 

2. Scoop a healthy dollop of filling on the bottom piece of the pie and then put it’s top on.

3. Using mini marshmallow as teeth, place them around the middle of the whoopie pie, attaching them to the icing. 

4. We've gone ahead and purchased eyeballs from the bulk store, but white chocolate chips work as well. Dot the back of each eyeball with icing and then attach the eyeball to the top of your monster whoopie pie. 

5. Gobble up and Happy Halloween!!
